Alexa, DJ, Kristin and I unofficially formed the Paranormal Book Club and the goal is to re-read (or in some cases, read for the first time) old YA paranormal books. The plan is to read a book/series per season (which I'm tracking here) and after, we'll answer five questions.
So far we've read The Iron Fey and Beautiful Creatures together and today I'll be talking about latest read: Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins.
Here are my thoughts (read my original review here):
Here are my thoughts (read my original review here):
- What were your initial thoughts about the book? Were you excited to read it?
I was so excited to re-read this series! I had a strong feeling that it would hold up for me and it did! Not only that, I also knew I wouldn't be able to stop at the first book so I ended up binging the whole trilogy (again). I still enjoyed the characters, how the author portrayed her angels and demons lore, and the romance so much. - What was your favorite quote or passage, and why did it resonate with you?
"We have to face difficulties to find out what our true strengths are. How we come back from failure is a very valuable test." The main character Anna Whitt goes through one hell of a journey in this series and to me this quote showed how strong and resilient she is. - Which character did you relate to the most, and what was it about them that you connected with?
I probably connected with Anna the most, even though were moments in the first book where I found her overly naive. But ultimately I connected with her love for her mom, having a hopeless crush on someone (haven't we all been there?!), her faith and her trying to do right by the people around her. - Was there anything you wanted to see more of in the book, like more page time for a secondary character or a plot point you wish was explored more?
I wouldn't have been opposed to more Kaiden time! But I thought the first book was well-balanced between the characters and plot lines. - What are your final thoughts? Would you read this book again and/or continue with the series? Would you read another book written by the same author?
I'm so glad we put this on our Paranormal Book Club list because I absolutely enjoyed rereading it. Not only did it hold up, but it made me so nostalgic for when I was all about the paranormal romance (a genre I still love and wish there was more of!). As I mentioned, I reread the whole series and I've already read other books by this same author and will continue to do so.

had to say about Sweet Evil!
Ooh I loved this series when I read it back at the start of high school! I'm glad it held up this time around for you - definitely makes me want to go back and reread it too!!

I'm so happy this ended up being one of our picks for Paranormal Book Club! It was definitely a series that was easy to binge (considering I rarely read entire series all in one go these days) and I enjoyed it.
