In honor of this week's release of Kingdom of Ash, the final book in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, I'll be hosting a week-long celebration with three of my favorite ladies, Alexa of Alexa Loves Books, Kelly of Belle of the Literati, and Hannah of So Obsessed With.
On Monday, we did a series roulette telling you all about our favorites and today we answered twenty questions which are divided among our four blogs. We delve a little deeper into the relationships, characters, themes and more, along with silly things like which creature are you most afraid of (keep reading to see my answer!).
Here are the questions I'm featuring:
Rachel: Aelin and Rowan is one of my #1 OTPs and I was rooting for them from the moment they clashed in Heir of Fire. Even when it didn’t yet occur to me that they’d actually end up together, I just knew there was something special between them. What strikes me the most about their relationship is how they completely accept one another, the good and the bad. Not to mention, their fierce support, the way they challenge the other, and their chemistry and banter. Their love story is so epic.
Alexa: I have always loved the friendship (that’s really more like brotherhood) that Dorian and Chaol share. I just really love that these two basically grew up together and have this shared history that will always bind them. But I also enjoy how they are constantly there for each other, and how deeply they care for one another (and how far that bond will encourage them to go for the sake of one another). Their bond makes me feel really warm and fuzzy because they are a wonderful example of the family you choose versus the family you’re born into!
Kelly: Aelin and Lysandra have always captivated me. They are so different yet so similar and it took them so long to figure out they are friends and allies rather than enemies which I love. I also find it intriguing they have been tormented by the same man but in vastly different ways and yet have both come out on the right side of wrong.
Hannah: Rowan and Aelin are my favorite romantic relationship in the series (see Rachel’s explanation!), but Manon and Asterin are my favorite relationship overall. I love that Asterin is loyal to Manon at any cost, but isn’t afraid to stand up to her either. Their ice and fire make them an unforgettable pairing, and I love that Manon is the authority but it’s her second who calls her to greatness. After all, it’s the thought of losing Asterin that leads Manon to this realization: “And Manon understood in that moment that there were forces greater than obedience, discipline, and brutality. Understood that she had not been born soulless; she had not been born without a heart.” DEAD.
Alexa: Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, there are quite a few moments that make me emotional when I read these books, but I think the one that consistently gives me all of the feelings whenever I come across it is the moment that Chaol, Dorian and Aelin share at the end of Queen of Shadows.
Kelly: In Heir of Fire when the orchestra plays all the anthems from all the different countries of Erilea.
Hannah: Y’all, I almost never cry while reading, but I can think of numerous scenes that have made me cry in this series. One of my favorites is the scene in Empire of Storms where Asterin is to be executed. Even knowing what happens next, I still tear up when I re-read it.
Alexa: There are so many terrifying creatures in the Throne of Glass series, but if I’m allowed to pick, I’d say that I’d be very terrified of the Valg.
Kelly: Skin walkers. Because if Rowan fears them, we all should fear them.
Hannah: After seeing Lorcan struggle to defend himself against the ilken, I think it’s fair to say they’d haunt my nightmares.
Rachel: In real life, my best friend Carina but from the books, it would definitely be Rowan.
Alexa: In real life, I’d definitely say Macky. If I were going to pick someone from the series, however, I would pick Lysandra for sure.
Kelly: My BFF Hannah or Lorcan because he’d show up for all my baser angry impulses.
Hannah: I’m already mind melded to Kelly, so Rowan will have to settle for warming the bed… I mean, bench. #hoesbeforehawks
Rachel: “Once Upon a Dream” by Lana del Rey. It was on Sarah J. Maas’ Queen of Shadows playlist. I listened to it a lot after reading the book.
Alexa: I love the song “Fight On, Fighter” by for KING & COUNTRY, and I actually feel like it’s such a good song to describe the general feelings I have about the series and these character journeys.
Kelly: Barbossa is Hungry from the Pirates of the Carribbean soundtrack always gives me battle scene and badass vibes of stalking the streets of Adarlan, kicking asses and taking names.
Hannah: From the first moment I listened to “Pay Dearly” by Johnnyswim, it’s been my mental theme song for this series. “You picked a fight, but you got a war...”
