Short & Sweet (15)

Mini-reviews of New Adult and Romance novels that I enjoyed

Romance - Contemporary
1 Line Summary: Reese is having an awful date when she meets Chase Parker but the last thing she expects is for him to save her from said date and then become her hot new boss a month later.
The Couple: Reading about Reese and Chase made wonder why I've never had an office romance before. (Or why I never meet a Chase IRL.) Their romance was fun and sexy and the author definitely drew out the tension for as long as possible.
The Plot: It was pretty straightforward. There are a ton of reasons why they shouldn't be together. He's her boss, she doesn't to be just a fling but he's not ready for a commitment, the list goes on.
Reservations: I think the author waited a bit too long for them to finally get it together. And I can't quite figure out what it is but something was missing for me.
Do I recommend?: Yes, if you're in the mood for a quick read and some romance, I think it's worth checking out.

Romance - Contemporary
1 Line Summary: Meadow Starr is a single mother but when her estranged baby daddy comes under investigation, it puts her right in the path of Federal Marshal Alex Flores.
The Couple: The chemistry between Meadow and Alex pretty much leapt off the pages. But even though I enjoyed the steamier moments between them, I actually loved the sense of family growing between Alex, Meadow and her son. It was giving me a lot of feels.
The Plot: There's a lot of drama and danger in this one but it suited the story. I mean he is a Federal Marshal after Meadow's ex. But it was definitely the characters more so than the drama that had my attention.
Reservations: None that I can think of. This is the second book in Lee's spin-off series and I've enjoyed it thus far!
Do I recommend?: I do! I like her writing and stories in general so I plan to read more from her and I hope you do too.

Romance - Contemporary
1 Line Summary: When a mentally ill ex-soldier opens fire in London, Jessica Charles is left crippled and forever changed by the experience,
The Couple: From beginning to end, I felt so much for Jessica. From her fear and frustration and to her slow healing process. And a big part of that healing comes in the form of Keir McGregor. He's tied to Jessica in an unexpected way that you know will blow up in his face. But that didn't stop me for rooting for them and their intense chemistry.
The Plot: It's pretty obvious how the plot is going to go but I have to give Halle a lot of credit for creating such different stories. She just tackles something new each time and I really enjoy seeing where she takes me. Plus each new heroine is someone I'd like to get to know and be friends with and each new McGregor is.. well, really hot.
Reservations: My one thing about her books is something the angst and drama is too much.
Do I recommend?: Yes! I've bought pretty much all her contemporaries on release day so that should tell you all you need to know.
