My YA Life in Book Titles

When I saw Jamie's Friday Fun: My YA Life in Book Titles this morning, it sounded like so much fun! I knew I wanted to participate. I just didn't realize it would take me hours to fill this out! Let me tell you, it is not a simple as it looks. But it was worth it. It was fun to reflect, look through my Goodreads list and find some honest (and some silly) answers.
YOU
How would you describe your 16 year old self: Loves Music, Loves to Dance and The Reader
When you looked into the mirror what did you see: Girl in Translation
Your 16 old self out look on life / motto: Bright Young Things (I had so many dreams and things I wanted to do!)
How you think people would describe your personality: Smart Girls Get What They Want (I did well in school and was on the executive board for half the clubs)
Describe an insecurity in high school: A Still Small Voice
Describe your worst trait as a teen: Transparent (I always put myself out there and give, give, give but got hurt when certain people inevitably took advantage)
Describe the contents of your diary/journal: Small Damages (all my little dramas!)
Your biggest fear: What I Thought Was True (aka being lied to)
You excelled at: Geek Girl (I was always good with computers and this is when I started getting into making websites)
You were always concerned about: Pushing the Limits (I always wanted to follow the rules and do the right thing)
You thought your life was: Something Like Normal
LOVE LIFE
How would you sum up your high school love life: My Life Next Door (I had a crush on my neighbor)
Describe your most serious boyfriend from high school: Out of Reach (I didn't have a boyfriend but this is how I would describe my most serious crush at the time)
Describe your first kiss: The Sweetest Spell
Your philosophy on dating/love: One Day (I liked having crushes but I wasn't in any rush to have a boyfriend)
Describe your worst break up: Burned

FAMILY
Your relationship with your mom as a teen: Dissonance (My mom and I were constantly clashing on everything)
Your relationship with your dad as a teen: An Acceptable Time (On the other hand, my dad and I were totally fine)
Your relationship with a sibling: Eight Cousins (I'm an only child with lots of cousins)
What you thought about your parents rules/parenting style: Lock and Key (very strict)
FRIENDS
Describe you and your best friend at 16: Kindred Spirits
Your social status: Circle of Friends
Describe your group of friends: Sisters in Sanity (I went to a very cliquey all-girls school and luckily I found my niche there. But looking back, we definitely were our own brand of crazy even if we didn't see it that way at the time.)

SCHOOL
Your perception of high school upon entering: The Realm of Possibility (Starting a new school always feels like a fresh start)
Your relationship with academics: Easy (Not to sound snotty haha because I did study and work hard but the majority of my classes weren't that challenging)
Your weekends were: Never Let Me Go (as in my parents didn't let me go out much on the weekends when I was 16. That changed when I learned how to drive.)
If your high school life was a movie it would be called: Story of a Girl
A class you wish high school would have offered: The Survival Kit (for life!)
Your senior year was: Drama (so many ups and downs with friends, I can't even.)
Describe prom: Such A Rush (in a wonderful feeling kind of way)
When high school ended it was: Are We There Yet? (By the second half of my senior year, I was so ready for it to be over.)
THE FUTURE
How you felt about the prospect of college: Perfect Escape (Because.. I was dorming! Which meant not having my parents looking over my shoulder 24/7).
How you thought your life would be at 30: Golden

YOUR LIFE NOW
Describe your love life now: Cursed (Just kidding! Sorta.)
Describe the state of your friendship with your high school BFF: Two-Way Street (We hit a rough patch during college and a lil bit afterward -- I felt like the friendship was one-sided -- but now we're great!)
Your relationship with your parents now: Safe Haven
Your thoughts on your high school reunion: Forget You (Even if we have one, I don't see myself going)
Biggest lesson you learned in high school: The Importance of Being Earnest
One thing you wished you had learned: Swimming Lessons (It's true, I can't swim or even float.)
Advice you wish you could have given your teen self: (Be) Fearless
Something you could learn from your 16 year old self: Spark (I miss the innocent, inhibited passion I had for things)

What would some of your answers be?

  2. This is adorable! I want to do it too, if only I had the time. I might save it for future reference if I do. Love that you were able to find titles that described your life so accurately! ALSO. I totally understand about Asian parents because SERIOUSLY, that's a parenting style all its own!
