RACHEL • "Action" by Terror Fabulous & Nadine Sutherland
I love listening to old school 90s reggae for two reasons. One, it makes me want to get up and dance and two, it makes me feel nostalgic. Whenever I hear "Action" I always think of hearing this song on the radio with one of my best friends and how we immediately loved it. We eventually recorded it from the radio onto a cassette tape (doesn't that make you feel old?!) and we'd play it constantly. I just picture us driving to the mall, windows down and music blasting.
CARINA • "Hold Yuh" by Gyptian
I used to listen to a lot of reggae back in high school (yes, shocking, I know). For those who don't know, I love to dance and reggae has always made a cameo on my dance playlists. Fast forward a few years and reggae has fallen out of my repeat playlist only to be replaced by other genres of music… until recently. A friend sent me a song which sampled Gyptian's "Hold Yuh" and from that point on, I've been looking for all the past reggae songs I used to love and dance to. When Rachel mentioned doing a reggae edition for our Infinite Playlist, I immediately agreed. I actually had a few older reggae songs in mind for this post until I realized how fitting it would be to choose "Hold Yuh", the song that brought reggae back on my repeat playlist.
For all the reggae fans out there, this post is for you.
